School years can be challenging for children and adolescents at different times in their lives. Transitioning to a new school because of military or other kinds of work related transfers or changes in peers can cause stressful responses. Being the “new kid” or feeling like you don’t fit in can cause anxiety, depression and can sometimes create a crisis situation. Teens especially seek out ways to numb the pain related to feeling insecure, unknown or disconnected.
In Dr. Katie’s work with children and teens she helps them rediscover what are their strengths, their, gifts, their talents that enable them to contribute to any school community. By empowering them and supporting them in rediscovering their value, they recreate a new life with more meaningful and fulfilling relationships.
If they are used to moving and not really connecting emotionally because they will leave, she works with them in finding ways to open up to new possibilities regardless of their timeline. She also works with parents and teachers along with the student creating a team approach to providing support.
